MD Smither is one of New Zealand’s most recognisable painters and since his first solo exhibition in 1961 has a firmly established place among the leading artists in our country. He works in a variety of media, most notably oils, acrylic and screen-print. Michael is the recipient of the Francis Hodgkins Fellowship from Otago University and was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2004.
