Rūaumoko (middle earth) is the son within the womb of Papatuanuku, and he rolls over occasionally to remind us that we each have a part to play in looking after and treasuring his mother (Earth).

Since his childhood in the UK, Merv has been hooked on birds.  On a trip to Mount Cook with a school party as Art Teacher, he encountered a film making group focused on hang gliding.  “Part of the experience is to fly wing tip to wing tip alongside hawks and to thermal with them.   I like to think that these experiences have helped me to portray birds in flights and to understand their anatomy, habits and characteristics.”
